 A Message from Pastor Amy

Lutherdale remnantsThese are remnants of Lutherdale, of a week with 9 young people from Trinity (+60 others). A week of pontoon rides and Bible studies and wild, loud camp songs. It was a week of watching our students make friends outside the church, of seeing them connect with counselors. It was a week of excitement and homesickness, of laughter and tears.

At the camp there is a high ropes adventure course where a person can literally soar 40+ feet in the air. Lutherdale uses the phrase “challenge by choice” for these feats, meaning a person can participate only if they’re up to it. It’s not required. It was so exciting to watch the kids do this – to climb, to cheer each other on.

But even better, in my opinion, was the low ropes course. These team building games required cooperation to succeed. In the first day or two, it was a challenge for our group. They knew one another, sure, but to solve these problems required trust. There was an added snag of people not from Trinity to work with.

Group dynamics are hard, no matter how old you are. How do I get to know others? How much of myself do I share? Can I trust you? There is risk involved in building a relationship, a community. Yet, sometimes the situation leaves us no choice. In order to succeed, each student had to try. They had to help each other. It was very church-like.

There was so much that happened at camp. Real connections between people and scripture and creation and God. Thursday night worship on the waterfront brought tears, and not just mine! For all our distance from the church, it was recreated in this cabin’s worth of young people – in prayer, in worship, and in community.

Thank you for the great week.

LWR Projects Update

The soap drive has been a great success; we collected enough soap to share in making the LWR Personal Care Kits and the Free Pantry. Thank you, thank you for your generous donations and dedication to these projects. If you would still like to contribute soap, you may bring to church on Thursday night or Sunday morning worship. We will continue to distribute the soap to the above organizations.

PERSONAL CARE KITS To date we have collected and packed 16 personal care kits. Thank you. We will continue to accept these kits until Sept. 12, 2021.

SCHOOL CARE KITS The coronavirus crisis has not slowed down the need for School Kits. In fact, LWR can’t keep up with the demand. At present time we have 6 complete school kits and extra supplies to complete more of these kits. If you would prefer to donate supplies, we could use pencil sharpeners, scissors, notebooks, and rulers.

We will continue to collect school kits and school supplies until Sept. 12, 2021. Our delivery date to Madison is on Sept. 18.

So many thanks to you all.
