Adult Book Study
Mondays – Unclobber: Rethinking Our Misuse of the Bible on Homosexuality
In Unclobber, the author weaves together two distinct stories. One is his own experience as a Pastor, butting heads with and eventually being fired from his church because he could not deny or condemn people who are LGBTQI+. The other story is an in depth look at those clobber passages, the old refrains that get thrown out to justify exclusion. Together, the stories encourage the reader to listen to God’s voice in our lives today.
During Lent, I hope you will join me in reading Unclobber. This book is for people who have questions, who want to better understand, who want to articulate a response, who are LGBTQI+ or an ally. Our time together is for people who are ready for: an open conversation, a rethinking of the use of scripture versus the purpose of scripture, a time of listening and learning from one another.
Will you please join me? Will you commit to 5 weeks of learning, praying, and listening together? We will neither begin nor end this conversation, or the RIC process, in the same place. The key, however, is to actually begin together.
